To Guard an Angel's Love
Sequal to "The Mission"

I stand in the doorway as he closes the laptop and bows his head. His hair falls forward some, covering his eyes. I already know why.

“Mission?” I say, and he startles, looking up at me, his eyes wide.

“How did you know?” I smile slightly at him, trying to reassure him I didn’t hack his computer this time.

“Your body language screamed it. You’re the easiest to read.” He gives me wry smile. I slip my hand in my pants pocket and pull out something small. I toss it to him and he catches it deftly. “Since your Maguanacs won’t be allowed to assist you.” He looks at me quizzically. “Push the red one if you’re in trouble, the green one if you need backup.” And before he can say a word, I turn and disappear down the hallway.

“”*~‘’~*“”

I close the laptop and bow my head to think. ‘Damn. It had to be me, didn’t it?’ Suddenly, her voice cuts into my thoughts before they can get too far.

“Mission?” I jump, having not heard her come to my door. I look up at her and I know my eyes are wide as saucers by the slight smile that flickers across her lips.

“How did you know?” I wonder if she hacked my computer, like she did the last time. She flashes me a small smile, reassuring that she didn’t.

“Your body language screamed it. You’re the easiest to read.” I flash her a smile as I think to myself, ‘Oh, I am, am I?’ Suddenly she’s pulled something from her pocket and has tossed it at me. I catch it with ease. As I examine it she tells me what we both know. “Since your Maguanacs won’t be allowed to assist you.” I glance up at her, wondering what the hell she’s talking about. “Push the red one if you’re in trouble, the green one if you need backup.” Before I can respond to ask any questions or to thank her, she’s disappeared from my doorway. The last thing I see is the tail of her braid as it flies past.

I start to ready myself for this more than unpleasant mission.

I know exactly what I'm doing as I turn on my laptop. I throw off my clothes and hop into the shower, knowing this'll be the last time I can until the end of his mission. I quickly unbraid and brush out my hair, checking out how long it's gotten. Wasting no more time, I shower.

I know he's left by the time I get out of the shower, so I pull on a pair of multipocketed khakis, filling the pockets with anything I think would be useful in the event I need to spring him, or go be backup. Tossing on a dark green tank top, I sit in front of my laptop, allowing my hair time to air-dry. No messages. I sigh in relief as I begin to braid up my hair.

“”*~‘’~*“”

I've fought all that I can, and still I'm surrounded by Mobile Dolls. I can't fight anymore. I take one more hit and suddenly, I recall Fallyn's words from earlier. I pull out the small device and push the red button as all power goes out in my Gundam. I'm a sitting duck.

“”*~‘’~*“”

I'm jerked from my sleep by the start of a persistent beeping coming from my laptop. I'm on my feet, pulling on my socks and black boots, studying the screen to find out which button was pushed.

"Shit." I mutter under my breath. The red one. Good thing I installed homing devices both on his gundam and on his clothes, without him knowing.

I grab my laptop and my bag and bolt out the door.

“”*~‘’~*“”

I awaken in a dark room. I don't know where I am. All I know is that I've been caught and the mission is a failure. Unless I can get out of here...

There's a soft disturbance outside the door of this dark cell they have me in and suddenly, light floods the room. I shade my eyes from the brightness, trying to figure out who is in the doorway. The dark blob moves closer and slowly I can make out a slender form and the swish sound of a braid.

"C'mon 'Peen. We gotta get you outta here." Fallyn takes my hand and leads me out into the hallway, drawing her gun. I glance around and notice the bodies of two guards lying on the ground. They don't appear to be wounded, but they definitly aren't conscious, either.

We race down the hallway, me following her, covering her back as she races backwards, watching behind us.

"We gotta get outta here, 'Peen. I set a multitude of explosives that are gonna blow this place to bits. Did you finish your mission?" I shake my head and she frowns softly. "Well, let's get it taken care of, shall we? Which way to the main control room?" I point to our right and she turns the corner, shooting her gun behind me. "Lead on, Blondie."

“”*~‘’~*“”

He leads us to the Main Control Room and I pick the lock in record time. After all, we only have about 5 minutes to get what we need to get done, done, and get our booties outta there before the place goes up in flames.

I close the door softly behind me and race to the control panel, where he's already standing. "C'mon, 'Peen, time to work wonders." His slender fingers are already flying over the various keys and buttons as my own join his. I can hear the pursuit as they double back and start to backtrack to the room. "We're running out of time!" I hiss as sweat starts to drip from my brow.

As the door is approached, we stumble upon what we're needing. He sets the code as I jump up and bust out an air vent, hiding there as the door is busted down.

“”*~‘’~*“”

Before I finish typing the last character and hit enter, the door explodes, sending me across the room. I look around, but I can't find Fallyn. The room fills with smoke as guards rush in. I draw my gun and take a few of them out. Suddenly and seemingly out of nowhere, Fallyn drops in and bounces around, taking guards out left and right using both her body and her gun.

She grabs my hand as the last guard falls and drags me behind her. "Left, right, right, and another left and we'll have our escape!" She yells in my direction, motioning for me to lead. She guards our rear and I take out the guards in front of us, running in the directions she told me.

I turn the last left and instantly am plunged outside. I glance back to see her tailing me, running at full speed. She grins at me and tosses me a small device with a signal beeping on it. I give her a puzzled glance and she laughs.

"How else do you think I found you? Follow the beeping, I'll follow you and guard our rear." I shrug as we continue to run for the nearby outcropping. As we round a rather massive boulder, I stop dead and she runs into me as she follows. Before me stand my Gundam and another, different Gundam. She laughs at the look I'm sure I'm wearing. "Hop in. We need to blow this joint!"

“”*~‘’~*“”

I laugh at his obvious amazement and state the obvious. "Hop in. We need to blow this joint!" He snaps out of it and nods at me, making a bee-line for his Gundam. We both hop into the Gundams at the same time and fire them to life.

He comes across the vidscreen. "You know how to pilot a Gundam?" I give him my trademark Angelic Devil Grin.

"Of course! Doesn't everyone?" He smiles and shakes his head as we rise to the stars. About the time we're almost far enough away, the base explodes. "Oops, 'Peen, do you think they'll be pissed?" I ask innocently.

He laughs. "Yes, I do. Which reminds me, I've been meaning to ask of you a question." He pauses, waiting for the go-ahead. I nod to the vidscreen. "Why the nickname?"

I laugh. I mean, really crack up. He looks at me worriedly for a moment as my laughter slowly subsides. "Well," I start, "I don't really like all the other nicknames for you. You don't look feline to me, so I won't call you Cat. Q-man reminds me of some really old fossil things that I saw with a show called 'Star Trek' on it, so I won't call you that. And any other nicks, I have my reasons for not calling you."

He nods. "Okay. But why 'Peen?" I giggle.

"Well, your last name IS Winner. Winners are generally Champions. Champions is close to the word Champeen. So, basically, 'Peen is a shorter version of Champeen, which is, in turn, a version of Winner. Understand now?" He grins at me and nods.

"Yeah, and sorry I asked." We laugh heartily as we make our way back to the safehouse, both of us safe now.

“”*~‘’~*“”

We make it back home, safe and sound. We put the Gundams back in their places in the hangar, and I turn to look at her, our gazes meeting and locking. Her amethyst eyes bore into my blue/green ones. Suddenly, I realize something.

Whilst one cannot Guardian Angel one's own Guardian Angel, it is possible to return the favor by being a Guardian Angel to the love of one's own Guardian Angel. And looking into her eyes, I realize I have my own Guardian Angel.
