I'm With You
Song by Avril Lavigne
{Lyrics}

{I'm standing on a bridge
I'm waitin' in the dark
I thought that you'd be here by now
There's nothing but the rain
No footsteps on the ground
I'm listening but there's no sound }

Marelle leaned against the railing of the bridge, looking out through the rain to watch the river flow below. Her hands clasped each other as she rested on her forearms, the cold rain soaking her to the bone. She turned her face up to the heavens, allowing her attention to waiver. The rhythmic pounding of the rain on the ground wasn't interrupted by footsteps or anything.

The black clouds above her did little to appease the sense of loneliness that hung in her chest. The night and the rain seemed to actually make it worse, but there didn't seem to be anything she could do about it. She turned her attention back to listening for...something. Anything.

{Isn't anyone tryin' to find me?
Won't somebody come take me home
It's a damn cold night
Trying to figure out this life
Won't you take me by the hand
take me somewhere new
I don't know who you are
but I... I'm with you
I'm with you}

She stood up straight, leaving one rain-kissed hand trailing the railing as she started to walk to the other side of the bridge. Idly, she whispered to the rain "Isn't anyone trying to find me?". She shook her head as she knew the truth. Everyone curled up with loved ones in front of a fire that pops and sizzles with the occasional raindrop that falls down the chimney. She just felt..lost, out of place. She had no reason to be there, but she felt drawn.

Marelle wandered off the bridge and onward into the city that was nearby. She walked the streets with her usual detatchment, till she found herself in the club district. Neon lights glowed in the rain, causing the pavement to glow where the light hit the puddles. Before she could change her mind, she entered one of the clubs.

{I'm looking for a place
searching for a face
is anybody here I know
cause nothing's going right
and everything's a mess
and no one likes to be alone }

Keeping to the shadows, her eyes scanned the crowd for a familiar face. The throbbing crowd was dancing to the music blaring over the speakers, the fog machine turned to full blast causing half the crowd to be invisible, and the other half to be fuzzy. She peeled her jacket off, her white tanktop revealing the extent of the rain-drenching. She pulled her soaked black overshirt around her body, trying to warm up.

She perked and scanned the crowd again as she heard angel's laughter. 'My ears are playing tricks on me.' she thought as her eyes passed over a flicking chestnut braid. Her eyes quickly returned, nigh instantly, but the appararition was gone. 'So are my eyes.' She rubbed her eyes, nearly dislodging her glasses. When she opened them, a tall, graceful form was headed her way.

{Isn't anyone tryin' to find me?
Won't somebody come take me home
It's a damn cold night
Trying to figure out this life
Won't you take me by the hand
take me somewhere new
I don't know who you are
but I... I'm with you
I'm with you}

She looked away, looking back out of the corner of her eye. The lithe figure continued towards her. Marelle passed it off. 'There's a ton of tables over here, he's probably going to one of the tables.' The form walked up the brief steps to the tables and walked towards her. She watched him out of the corner of her eye, pretending she was intent on the crowd. As he passed in front of her, she gasped.

He turned to regard her with one amused emerald eye. When he realized who she was, he did a double take and adjusted his destination to be the stool opposite her. He took one scrutinous look at her and got right back up, taking her hand and pulling her up to him. He wrapped one arm around her waist and, keeping her other hand in his, led her to their group on the dancefloor.

{oh why is everything so confusing
maybe I'm just out of my mind
yea yea yea }

When Trowa walked back into their small group in the middle of the club escorting a lean and tall figure, everyone stopped and looked. The small blonde of the group recovered first. "Marelle!" was the only preamble. She couldn't even brace herself as he launched himself at her, throwing his arms around her neck and holding on for dear life. She laughed softly and wrapped her arms around the small, but powerful, body. An arm snaked around her shoulders as the blond disengaged enough, moving his arm to rest around her slim waist.

"Good thing I took the time to look up on ya." Fallyn said to the newcomer, winking. "After you left, 'Peen's been beside himself. I don't think you know both what you mean to this little group and how damn difficult you are to find!" The girl laughed and Marelle smiled apologetically. "I like to keep a low profile." she offered. Fallyn laughed and nodded. "But it's a good thing you only go to one club, or type of club!" Marelle blushed. "It's the only kind I don't get hit on at. Well, by guys at least." 'And the only kind that reminds me of these two.' she added mentally, giving Quatre a squeeze and slipping her arm around Trowa's waist.

{It's a damn cold night
Trying to figure out this life
Won't you take me by the hand
take me somewhere new
I don't know who you are
but I... I'm with you
I'm with you}

Cherish walked up to her and gave her a hug. "It's good to have you back with us, M'elle. We've all missed you." Wufei, an ever-present fixture at Cherish's side, nodded, glancing significantly at Trowa and Quatre. Duo stepped closer and whispered in her ear. "No matter how hard you try, we'll always find you. You're one of us now, and we take care of our own." Marelle found herself grinning at that statement. She had never felt as if she belonged anywhere, but when this small group who had found her, once upon a nightmare, in the woods that fateful day, she felt as if she truely belonged. She hadn't found that since.

{Take me by the hand
take me somewhere new
I don't know who you are
but I... I'm with you
I'm with you}

Trowa pulled her and Quatre close, and began swaying to the music as a slower song started playing. Cherish leaned into Wufei and they, too, began to sway. Fallyn found herself sandwiched between Heero and Duo, but she didn't look like she really minded. The group slowly and steadily made their way over to the tables, Marelle stopping at hers to grab her jacket, her overshirt and tanktop still showing signs of the rain.

Quatre took a better look at her as she bent over to grab a few items that fell out of her jacket. He noticed the outline of her ever-present Choptanas in her back pocket, but glanced over them as he continued to look her over. Her white tanktop fit her like second skin, and the fact it was wet didn't help his condition any. He could tell her movements were getting her more looks than she knew, but he didn't care, he now had the two priceless people in the world with him, and he wasn't going to let go, this time.

{Take me by the hand
take me somewhere new
I don't know who you are
but I... I'm with you
I'm with you}

They left the club and headed out into the rain. Marelle felt a smile spread like fire across her face as she shared an umbrella with the two men who showed her how special she truely was. Trowa wrapped her in his arms on the car ride back home, Quatre laid his head in her lap. Those two small gestures let her know she wasn't going to be let go of this time.

{I'm with you...}
